Taos Police Investigate Second Sexual Assault of 2010
  Taos, New Mexico
The Town of Taos Police are now investigating two possible sexual assaults with similarities that investigators find alarming.  Both incidents involved the women leaving liquor establishments within the Taos Plaza area.  Both women report having a lapse in memory and waking up in a different location partially clothed.   The first incident reported to police occurred December 31, 2009.  The second incident reported to police occurred April 23, 2010.

Taos police believe the suspect/suspects may be using a drug to facilitate the assault.  Police investigators are working diligently to solve these assaults.  Taos police would like to speak to any other victims that may have experienced similar occurrences and had not yet reported to law enforcement.

Taos Police offer the following safety tips to avoid a potential assault:

Be aware of your surroundings ‹ who's out there and what's going on.
Walk with confidence. The more confident you look, the stronger you appear.
Know your limits when it comes to using alcohol. Moderation is the key.
If you go out with friends, leave with your friends.
Friends keep an eye out for each other at all times. Don't let a friend leave alone.
Don't lose track of your drink and don't accept open drinks.
Have a secret "help" signal with friends if you don't feel comfortable with someone at a club.
Be assertive ‹ don't let anyone violate your space.
Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable in your surroundings, leave.
  Don't prop open self-locking doors.
Lock your door and your windows, even if you leave for just a few minutes.
Watch your keys. Don't lend them. Don't leave them. Don't lose them. And don't put your name and address on the key ring.
Watch out for unwanted visitors. Know who's on the other side of the door before you open it. Or don't open it, and call police for help.
